Chalk up another Interclub

We had an interclub at today's Circle K K-family picnic. Floyd, Mary Jo (and her son James) and I attended the picnic at Thompson Park in Monroe Township. Good times meeting members of two of our sponsored programs.
The Tri-K family picnic is one of the premier events which brings together Circle K, Key Club and Kiwanis members together. Too bad the turnout was low. I'd say that overall we had about 50 people filter in and out during the event. The Circle K'ers worked hard and came from all over the state to make this a success.

The Kiwanis Club of Jackson just celebrated its 25th birthday. We organized February 7, 1991 and since then we have raised funds for scholarships, we have sponsored youth programs, worked with other local community service groups and donated $200,000.00 to eliminate Iodine deficiency disorders and neonatal tetanus, and co-fund the expansion of Children’s Specialized Hospital.

We have presented nearly 100 scholarships to graduating Jackson high school seniors and dozens to other students in the state.

We have sponsored four Key Clubs, which are service clubs for high school students that are a vital part of our Kiwanis family. We also sponsor two Builders Clubs for middle school students.

We have worked with other community groups like The Rotary Club, The Jackson Food Pantry with the Jackson Women of Today, the Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts, the Jackson PBA, The Handicapped Commission, the Fossils, the Ocean County Library, and Habitat for Humanity.

Our activities have included our annual Breakfast with Santa, our annual Police Officer of the Year dinner, helping the homeless, highway cleanup, cleanup of the Holmanville Church cemetery, health fairs, bike rodeos, and we hosted several community dinners.

Our favorite activity, though, is cooking for other groups like Sandy Relief, Chariot Riders, the annual PBA picnic, National Night Out Against Crime, the homeless, the Jackson and Lakewood branches of the Ocean County Library, and the Black Cowboys Association.

We have also made an impact on the world in large and small ways. We have donated farm animals to impoverished people. We have donated to put a smile on children’s faces.

The Kiwanis Club of Jackson aims to “improve the world one child, one community at a time.”
